Một sự tình cờ cũng là cơ duyên mà chủ nhà và KTS Nguyễn Thành Nhân gặp nhau. Khi đó, kiến trúc sư mới ra trường, còn vợ chồng chủ nhà cũng trẻ tuổi đang ở căn nhà chật chội 15 m2 trong phố. Họ thân thiết nhau như những người bạn.
Sau 5 năm, kiến trúc sư mới có cơ hội thiết kế ngôi nhà cho gia đình trẻ này. Khi ấy, họ đã quyết định tìm về chốn ngoại ô để tạo dựng tổ ấm. Là những người ưa xê dịch, yêu sự tự do phóng khoáng, họ thích những quãng đường bát ngát hơn là sự quanh quẩn ngột ngạt ở đô thị.
Nơi ở mới vốn là một vùng quê ở Hà Đông (Hà Nội), với cấu trúc làng gần như nguyên vẹn, có không gian thoáng đãng, nhiều cây cối và nhịp sống bình yên. Ngôi nhà của họ cũng có sân vườn và đó là điểm ưa thích nhất của gia chủ.
Gia chủ và kiến trúc sư đều hướng tới một công trình giản dị, gần gũi thiên nhiên. Chủ nhà không thích lệ thuộc vào yếu tố công nghệ và sự tiện nghi vật chất và mong muốn ngôi nhà của mình cũng như vậy. Ngôi nhà 3 tầng dành nhiều diện tích cho sân vườn, giếng trời… Diện tích đất là 165 m2, diện tích xây là 110 m2.
Các phòng chức năng được thiết kế giản dị ở cả hình thức, vật liệu, thiết bị, hướng tới sự giao hòa với thiên nhiên.
Phòng khách rộng mở ra sân vườn, phù hợp với văn hóa và nếp sinh hoạt cộng đồng làng xóm. Nếu ngồi đây, chủ nhà vừa có thể ngắm vườn, vừa có thể thư giãn cùng bể cá.
Cách tổ hợp bàn ăn liền với hệ thống tủ bếp, quầy bar tạo ra không gian kín đáo hơn cho khu bếp và thuận tiện cho sinh hoạt.
Phòng ngủ ở tầng 2, kế bên giếng trời, luôn tràn ngập ánh sáng.
Phòng ngủ cho trẻ cũng đơn giản, chỉ có giường tầng, tủ, phần lớn diện tích làm chỗ chơi cho trẻ.
Cầu thang gỗ, thép là điểm nhấn cho ngôi nhà. Phía trên là mái kính nên nắng có thể chiếu xuống tận chân cầu thang. Những bậc gỗ rời và hệ khung thép khiến cho không gian thêm thoáng đãng.
Khoảng giếng trời sau nhà như một mặt đứng khác của nhà với cây xanh và nắng ở khắp mọi nơi.
Sân thượng có một vườn lan và nuôi chim chóc… Ngôi nhà thực sự là nơi nghỉ ngơi và thư giãn với những thú vui tao nhã của chủ nhân.
